Rugby Team Building: Our Experience
At Corcoran Magri Properties, we strongly believe in the importance of having a solid and united team. For this reason, we do not limit ourselves to classic meetings, but always look for slightly more… original ways to strengthen our ties. From relaxing days at the spa to educational events such as TEDxCortina, through lunches and dinners all together, there is never a dull moment in our calendar.
This time we decided to treat ourselves to a special journey with Michele Mortali, trainer and former rugby professional at the Payanini Centre in Verona, to find out what rugby can teach us about teamwork.

Rugby: A Sport of the Collective
Rugby is the sport of the collective par excellence. Alone you cannot reach the goal; to make it, it is essential to pass the ball to others, taking care of them, turning back to make sure they are ready to receive it. You have to be there, beyond the goal line, and only your teammates can get you there. Metre after metre, pass after pass.
There are no tricks in this sport and you rely solely on the strength and unity of the team.
What did we learn from this day and what do we take home?
The Value of Mutual Support. In a rugby match, support between teammates is visible in every phase of the game, from physical support during a ruck to moral support after a mistake. This principle is applicable in any team context. The success of a true team depends on each member’s ability to sacrifice for the others, to put ego aside and work towards a common goal. Whenever a player supports a teammate, he not only contributes to the team’s success, but also builds a culture of trust and mutual respect. This positive environment inevitably leads to better performance and greater satisfaction for each team member.
The Importance of Communication. An essential element for coordinating actions and making quick decisions during a game or a busy day at work. Learning to communicate effectively involves first and foremost active listening, expressing one’s thoughts clearly and respecting the opinions of others.
Being Resilient. Resilience is a quality that is developed through constant training and overcoming difficulties. In rugby, defeats are inevitable, but it is the ability to get back up and keep fighting that defines a great player. This principle is equally valid in everyday life, where challenges and difficulties are the order of the day. Resilience teaches us to never give up and to always find the strength to keep going, regardless of the difficulties we encounter.
Specialise in ONE activity. As in rugby, in a team it is important to know what your role is and specialise in becoming the best. It is nice that all people know how to do all activities, but it is hardly ever functional. Today more than ever there is a need for specialists, people who know how to verticalise one’s own ability and make it available to the team. An example? Are you outgoing and like talking to people? You could be a perfect salesperson. Are you a more analytical and introverted person? Your skills might be more appreciated in retrieving data for acquisition.
