Opportunities, Business, and Lifestyle: Interview with the Hübsch Family

Welcome to another installment of our blog series dedicated to opportunities, business, and lifestyle on the magnificent Lake Garda. In this series, we have explored success stories, practical tips, and inspiring insights for those who wish to live and do business in this beautiful Italian region. Today, we are delighted to present the interview with the Hübsch family. Originally from Germany, the Hübsch family discovered their haven in Castion Veronese, a charming hamlet of Costermano sul Garda. Their experience offers us a unique glimpse into what it means to turn a dream into reality and how Lake Garda can offer an incomparable quality of life.

Good morning Mr and Mrs Hübsch can you briefly tell us who you are and what you do?

We are a couple from Germany, specifically from Tegernsee, about 50 km from Munich. My wife works in a doctor’s office, and I am a self-employed anesthetist.

Where did you buy your house and why did you choose this area?

In 2017, we fulfilled our dream of owning our own home on Lake Garda. It is a “rustico” above Garda in Castion, municipality of Costermano sul Garda, approx. 100 square metres in size, with a small garden. It originally dates back to the 16th century and was extensively renovated by our previous owners in 1995 – 98.

What particularly attracted you to Lake Garda compared to other locations?

We enjoy the Mediterranean flair on Lake Garda, the almost always good weather, especially in spring and autumn, when it is still cold or already autumn here in Germany. We love the Italian food, the good shopping opportunities ( clothing, food), the friendliness of the people, the relaxed life in the marvellous natural surroundings. Another big advantage for us is the relatively quick accessibility, with a drive of just under 4 hours.

Which services were crucial for you in choosing your house?

Regarding services, we appreciate the continuous opening hours of the stores, even on Sundays and public holidays, unlike in Germany.

What services do you think could be introduced to improve the experience of residents and visitors?

From our point of view, nothing is missing. On the contrary, more “amenities” would do more harm to the unspoilt nature of the Lake Garda region. Even though Lake Garda lives off tourism, we have long since reached the limit of what is reasonable, especially for the local population. The example of Venice shows what “more and more” can lead to. Lake Garda must remain in Italian hands and not become even more “German”.

Our Reflections

In this interview, the Hübsch family highlighted the importance of preserving the integrity and authenticity of Lake Garda, emphasizing sustainable tourism that maintains the charm of this beautiful region. The Hübsch family suggests that to prevent the towns around Lake Garda from becoming overrun by mass tourism, it is crucial to diversify the tourism offer and promote smaller local businesses that make the region unique by encouraging the discovery of hidden gems in smaller towns.
