August 2025: Unmissable Events Around Lake Garda, Verona, Cortina and Venice!

When July sparks the summer, August takes it to its peak. Northern Italy is alive with events that blend the relaxed pace of vacation with the energy of festivals, concerts, and centuries-old traditions. In this height-of-summer month, every place – from a lakeside promenade to a mountain hut in the Dolomites – becomes a stage.
Here are the unforgettable highlights of August 2025 around Lake Garda, Verona, Cortina d’Ampezzo and Venice:

Lake Garda

1–8 August – 29er European Championship, Riva del Garda

Picture the clear waters of Riva, framed by mountains and stirred by the reliable summer breeze. Hundreds of young sailors dart along the shore in light, agile boats, performing sharp manoeuvres and fast turns. Even if you’re not a sailing expert, this is a show of skill, speed and freedom. Tip: enjoy a delicious lunch on a panoramic terrace overlooking the regatta and try traditional Garda cuisine.

4–13 August – Moth World Championship, Malcesine

Welcome to the future of sailing: high-tech regattas with hydrofoil boats literally flying across the water at 50–60 km/h. In Malcesine, world-class sailors meet for a breathtaking competition visible from the waterfront – or even better, from the winding road above Navene, where the sails cut through the blue like hovering arrows.

7 August – Bardolino Music Festival, Lido di Cisano

Pop and folk music fill the lakeside with energy, featuring live concerts, street performers, gourmet street food, and a laid-back atmosphere. An aperitivo turns into a concert, blending sparkling wines, lights and flavour. Free entry – but come early to grab a lakeside lounger!

8–10 August – Magic Nights, Campo di Brenzone

This medieval village is already a magical gem with its stone houses, olive groves and lake views – but for three nights it becomes an enchanted setting. Each alley reveals something unexpected: a solo violinist under a lit archway, jazz among the lemon trees, live painting on a suspended canvas. Bring a light sweater, comfortable shoes, and leave your phone in your pocket – this is a place to experience with heart and eyes.

25 August – Pyromusical Show, Torri del Benaco

Lights, music and lake – the perfect trilogy. This lakeside fireworks show outdoes itself every year. It’s more than fireworks – it’s a visual symphony with classical, pop and cinematic music, every explosion synced to sound. The castle, port, and lakeside fill with people looking skyward. Bring a blanket, sit on the rocks, and enjoy the shimmering reflections on the water.

Verona

3 August – Jonas Kaufmann live at the Arena

A night under the stars that promises goosebumps. The world-renowned German tenor returns to the Verona Arena with a program mixing iconic opera arias and crossover works full of passion. His powerful and refined voice, combined with the Arena’s natural acoustics, makes this an immersive, unrepeatable experience – a must for opera lovers or anyone curious to discover the magic of opera in a legendary setting.

7–25 August – “La Città dei Ragazzi”, Forte Gisella

Just outside Verona, a historic military structure becomes a nightly playground for imagination. Theatre, storytelling, light shows and music form a cultural and interactive festival for families and curious adults alike. From timeless puppet tales to sensory workshops, every event ignites wonder. Ideal for children – or adults seeking a creative and relaxed evening in a unique venue.

9 August – Tribute to Ennio Morricone, Roman Theatre

At the evocative Roman Theatre, Andrea Griminelli and the Ritmico Sinfonica Italiana Orchestra, directed by Diego Basso, perform iconic Morricone scores such as Mission, Once Upon a Time in America and Cinema Paradiso. An emotional journey in a setting rich with history, and, as the sun sets, an intimate open-air sound experience under the stars.

All August – Opera Season at the Verona Arena

The Arena comes alive with monumental productions of Aida, Nabucco, Carmen, Rigoletto, and more. Even opera newcomers will be enchanted by these grand Italian melodramas under the stars. On 15 August, the special event Carmina Burana blends choir, orchestra and percussion in a powerful and unforgettable performance.

Cortina d’Ampezzo

9 August – Calici di Stelle

The most loved event among wine lovers heads to the mountains – in style. The terrace of Hotel Ancora becomes an alpine open-air lounge with top wines from Veneto and South Tyrol, gourmet food prepared on the spot, live music and the Dolomites glowing red in the sunset. Intimate and sophisticated – a toast with a view.

21 August – Cortina Summer Party

A legendary event: the most exclusive gourmet picnic of the summer returns to the meadow of El Brite de Larieto. Dress code: Tyrolean. Guests include Michelin-starred chefs from Italy and Vienna, with over 20 tasting stands offering elegant and rustic dishes. Surrounded by woods and live music, it’s a slow-luxury highlight for refined palates.

22 August – TEDx Cortina at Rifugio Col Gallina (2,055 m)

Back at 2,055 metres above sea level, this TEDx edition focuses on “bold visions for the future” – inspiring talks on environment, design, technology and community. The setting makes it total: you listen with the sky above you and leave with fresh ideas, new connections, and renewed energy.

All August – Una Montagna di Libri

The Dolomites’ most beloved literary festival continues all month with author talks, debates, and cultural events in Cortina’s most scenic spots – from piazzas to mountaintop huts. A rare chance to meet writers and thinkers in a stunning natural setting.

Venice

1 August – Gondola Ride with Audioguide on the Grand Canal

Not your typical tourist ride. This elegant and surprisingly intimate experience lets you rediscover Venice at a slower pace, with stories about palaces, secret affairs, duels and art delivered through headphones as you glide past Ca’ d’Oro to the Rialto Bridge. Each building has a tale to tell.

15 August – Feast of the Assumption, Torcello

Ferragosto becomes a solemn celebration on Torcello, the island where it all began. In the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, surrounded by golden mosaics and ancient columns, the Assumption is honoured in a timeless ritual. After Mass, enjoy lunch at Locanda Cipriani or along the canal – a day of peace and beauty in the lagoon.

16 August – Feast of San Rocco, Venice

The day after Ferragosto, Venice pays tribute to San Rocco, protector of health. It begins with a solemn Mass in the majestic Church of San Rocco in San Polo. Then, the doors of the Scuola Grande open for free, where Tintoretto’s frescoes create an atmosphere of deep spirituality and artistic wonder.

82nd Venice International Film Festival

The Lido lights up with the glamour of cinema. Paolo Sorrentino’s La grazia opens the 2025 edition, with Alexander Payne presiding over the jury. Visionary directors, rising stars and Hollywood icons walk the red carpet. Alongside screenings, enjoy public talks, exclusive events and films under the stars. A must for cinephiles – and anyone wanting to see a more elegant, creative, and vibrant Venice.

Conclusion

In August, Northern Italy hits the accelerator: culture meets panorama, music rises from the lakes, ideas are born on mountaintops, and Venice becomes the centre of the world once again.
Because every concert, every glass under the stars, every film at the Lido reflects the lifestyle these places offer – all year round.
